The spark for TUCHIWIDO came from the personal journey of John Lokwawi Ekuwom, who became physically disabled after contracting polio at the age of three. Despite his challenges, he pursued education and dreamed of a world where people with disabilities (PWDs) were not isolated, abused, or ignored. After enduring hardship and domestic abuse, he committed to being the support system he never had—by creating a space where children and youth with disabilities are seen, heard, and empowered.
Together with a group of friends from Dapal, Kalokol, who shared a common vision, TUCHIWIDO was born. What started as a small initiative to help a few children return to school has now grown into a powerful voice and support network for vulnerable groups across Turkana County.
